Located in a
beautiful and bountiful valley where the Sacramento and the American
Rivers converge Sacramento is the site of the largest migration in
history when thousands of prospectors and would be miners from
around the world converged on what is now the Sacramento area. When
gold was discovered in the area in the 1840’s Sacramento immediately
became the largest city in California. So many men were migrating to
the gold fields which it is said wagons could be seen all the way to
the horizon day after day. All the miners who came to California
were looking to make their fortunes but only a |

small
number were able to do more than eke out a poor living. More money
was made by people who sold shovels than the men who used them. The
migration continues today because of the climate, business
opportunities, and employment opportunities.
Millions of trees, over two thousand acres of parks, and miles of
riverfront and river parkways had Sacramento tagged as one of the
ten best cities in the United States to live.
Sacramento became the state capitol in1854 and continues today as
the center of power for the Golden state.
For the visitor Sacramento has a lot to offer and is a good place to
use as a base if you would like to visit San Francisco which is only
ninety miles away. A day trip to the bay area is always enjoyable
and returning to the relatively quiet pace of Sacramento is great.
Sacramento is also an easy drive from other points of interest such
as the wine making country, or Reno Nevada and its many casinos and
other entertainment. |

Another nice excursion is to Yosemite
National Park and the breathtaking beauty of the many waterfalls, El
Capitan and the other well-known landmarks of the park, while traveling
around this area visit the wine country and enjoy a tour of some of the
famous California wineries and sample the best wines made in the world
today. Sacramento is served by an International airport, two Interstate
highway systems, and many state highways and the road system is not
clogged as in southern California.
Old Sacramento is on the river and downtown where you can step back in
time to the days of the gold rush which originally brought so many
settlers to California .Today there are museums, shops, restaurants, and
a twenty eight acre State Historic Park. Plan to spend a day in Old
Sacramento and soak up the history of Sacramento and the gold rush
country.
Professional ballet, opera, and theatre are a few of the offerings which
entertain after the lights come on. Speaking of entertainment Sacramento
hosts many festivals during the year including the annual Dixie Jazz
Festival which is the world’s largest jazz fest and some of the
spectators feel this is also the best one in the world.
